Dr. Robert Wisher, Director, Department of Defense, Advanced Distrusted Learning Initiative
1. Introduce ADL and Co-labs in U.S and other countries
The Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative was formed as a developer and implementer of learning technologies across the Department of Defense.(DOD).
ADL employs a structured, adaptive, collaborative effort between the public and private sectors to develop the standards, tools and learning content for the learning environment of the future. The vision of the ADL Initiative is to provide access to the highest-quality learning and performance aiding that can be tailored to individual needs and delivered cost-effectively, anytime and anywhere.
In 1999, the ADL Initiative created the first of several ADL Co-Laboratories (ADL Co-labs) in Alexandria, Virginia. The Alexandria ADL Co-Lab is the main ADL Co-Lab and ADL's central organization for guiding, coordinating and integrating the operations of the ADL Co-Lab Network.
2. SCORM and the use of ADL in military online training.
The Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is a collection of specifications and standards primarily drawn from other organizations. SCORM provides the framework for developers, content providers, project managers and instructional designers to follow in developing their product to be reusable and interchangeable across a global scale.
3. CORDRA and the function of CORDRA in air force.
Content Object Repository Discovery and Registration/Resolution Architecture (CORDRA)
CORDRA is:
· A formal model that can be used to design federations of repositories (the CORDRA reference model)
· A collection of operational systems built from the CORDRA model, including:
· A prototype implementation of a repository federation
· An operational federation of federations used to combine different CORDRA federations.
The activities and projects surrounding the definition of the CORDRA model and creation of the operational systems.
4. Foreign Language training, Gaming and other techniques.
About Robert A. Wisher, Ph.D.
Robert A. Wisher, Ph.D., is the Director of the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative (ADL) for the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). In this position, Dr. Wisher is responsible for directing and implementing the ADL Initiative within the Department of Defense (DoD), as well as other government organizations, academia and industry on an international basis. Dr. Wisher provides direction for the development and refinement of the Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) and for the continued expansion of the ADL Initiative.
