Background
Mary Donaldson was born in Hobart, Island of Tasmania, Australia, on February 5th 1972. She is the youngest of four children and youngest of three daughters of John Dalgleish Donaldson and his late first wife, née Henriette Clark Horne.
She was christened "Mary Elizabeth" in a Presbyterian ceremony. However, she has agreed to become a member of the Evangelical-Lutheran church. Professor Christian Thodberg, the Kongelige Konfessionarius, will undertake Mary's spiritual guidance in her transition to the Evangelical-Lutheran faith.
Marriage & Family
On September 24th 2003 it was announced by Hofmarskal Ove Ullerup that Hendes Majestæt Dronning Margrethe II til Danmark intends to give her consent to the marriage between Hans Kongelige Højhed Kronprins Frederik til Danmark and Mary Elizabeth Donaldson in the Statsråd, which is to be held at Amalienborg in København at 10h00 CEST on October 8th 2003. The couple had met at the Summer Olympics in Sydney in 2000.
The previously announced Statsråd, presided over by Hendes Majestæt Dronning Margrethe II til Danmark, had gathered at Christian IX's Palæ, Amalienborg, at 10h00 CEST on Wednesday, October 8th 2003, and, upon submission from the Statsminister and in accordance with the Tronfølgeloven of 1953, Hendes Majestæt Dronning Margrethe II til Danmark gave her consent to the marriage of her son Frederik and the Australian Mary Donaldson. After the Statsråd at 11h00 CEST the ministers gathered in the Riddersal to greet the engaged couple and its parents and official photographs were taken. Afterwards the engagement was officially announced between Mary Donaldson and Hans Kongelige Højhed Kronprins Frederik til Danmark. The newly-engaged couple appeared at the balcony of Christian IX's Palæ, Amalienborg, with its families at 12h00 CEST. At 13h15 CEST a family lunch was held at Fredensborg Slot in Fredensborg, Frederiksborg, Danmark, and about 2 hours later Mary and Frederik presented themselves during a press conference in the Havesal, Fredensborg Slot, at 15h30 CEST. In the evening a Statsrådsmiddag was held at Fredensborg Slot at 20h00 CEST.
Mary Donaldson got married to Hans Kongelige Højhed Kronprins Frederik til Danmark in a Lutheran ceremony at København's Domkirke, Vor Frue Kirke, on Friday, May 14th 2004. The ceremony started at 16h00 CET and was officiated by København's Biskop Erik Norman Svendsen, who was assisted by the Kongelige Konfessionarius Professor Christian Thodberg. The wedding reception afterwards took place at Fredensborg Slot in Fredensborg, Frederiksborg, Danmark. The couple left Fredensborg Slot for their honeymoon at 02h17 CEST on May 15th 2004. They returned to Danmark shortly before June 7th 2004.
On Monday, April 25th 2005, it was officially announced by the Danish royal house that Kronprinsesse Mary and Kronprins Frederik are expecting their first child at the end of October 2005. The baby, a son called "Christian Valdemar Henri John", was born at the Rigshospital in København, Danmark, on October 15th 2005.
Nationality
Upon her wedding she became a Danish citizen.

Since her wedding she is styled as "Hendes Kongelige Højhed Kronprinsesse Mary".
